The chestnut Tree House
Chestnut Tree House, the children's hospice for Sussex, cares for local
children and young people with progressive life-limiting and
life-threatening illnesses. Caring for a sick child can raise all sorts of
practical, physical and emotional issues which affect not only the child but
their loved ones too. Chestnut Tree House aims to tackle these issues by
providing 'holistic' care for the whole family, offering practical and
emotional support, expert advice and dedicated care.
Families are never charged for their care at Chestnut Tree House. It costs
£2 million each year to run the hospice and we receive very little
government funding which means we rely very heavily on the generosity of the
people of Sussex to keep our doors open and provide this vital service for
our children and their families.
The Royal National Lifeboat Institution
The Royal National Lifeboat Institution is a registered charity that saves
lives at sea. It provides the 24-hour on-call service to cover search and
rescue requirements out to 100 nautical miles from the coast of the United
Kingdom and Republic of Ireland and a seasonal beach lifeguard service on
appropriate beaches in the south west of England. The RNLI is independent
from Government and continues to rely on voluntary contributions and
legacies for its income.
SurfAid International
SurfAid is dedicated to improving the health of people living in isolated
regions connected to us through surfing. Currently operating in the remote
islands of Western Sumatra, Indonesia, SurfAid is alleviating the human
suffering of indigenous people through community-based health programs. With
the support of the global surfing community, volunteers and most importantly
the island people themselves, SurfAid exemplifies the healing power of
cross-cultural partnership. SurfAid is the recipient of the 2007 WANGO (World Association of Non-Governmental Organizations) Humanitarian Award.
