Ukulele Stage
The Paddle-Ucanukulele-Stage is a new feature for 2012.
We know how much you all love the humble Uke so we have teamed up with Brighton based Ukulele impresario Nicki Bloom and her company ucanukulele.
Check out the foot of this page for the “Paddle -Ucanukelele – Stage” timetable.
Ucanukulele is a Brighton based company delivering ukulele lessons and taster events to people of of all ages.
Nicki Bloom, founder, combines her love of teaching and the ukulele to inspire complete beginners into confident players;“the reason the ukulele is so popular is because it’s an easy instrument to learn, affordable, portable, fun and cool! THE pUKES

The Pukes
We first started meeting in January 2011 at our local pub, the Royal Sovereign, to have a few pints and bash out our favourite tunes on the ukulele. But we soon found ourselves in demand, playing gigs, festivals and punks picnics in London and beyond.
Around half the pUKEs were ‘non musicians’ before we learned the uke, the other half have been in bands such as UK Subs, Extreme Noise Terror, Rubella Ballet, PMT, Lost Cherrees, ATV, Rabies Babies, Social Schism and the Triads.

Southampton Ukulele Jam

Southampton ukelele jam
Everyone in the Jam gives their time for free, but, by asking for charitable donations for private or funded events, the Jam have been able to raise thousands of pounds for charity since they started.
Adhering to the“everyone welcome, anyone can do it” ukulele ethos, they have a thriving beginners and improvers group and hold an open Jam every other Monday at The Talking Heads in Portswood, Southampton. With details of all their gigs and songs on their website, anyone can join in. The Jam can vary in size between 15 and 50 members depending on the gig so you never quite know what you are going to get when you see them. What is consistent though is that they have a great time playing and this infectious enthusiasm always rubs off on the audience.
This approach has lead to the flourishing of a healthy satellite scene around the Jam, with a number of bands forming, including The Slow Arrangers, The Ukofonics, The Skiffuleles, The Spiraltones (and many more) that reflect the diversity of the Jam’s membership and the unexpected directions that ukulele music can be taken in.
