I've been carrying a camera on the trail for over a decade, and I know the exact frustration of watching a great shot slip away because your pack was too uncomfortable to lift. Last summer, our team hiked more than 35 miles across the Sierra Nevada with 10 different camera backpacks, hauling everything from a […]

I have lost count of the times I have watched a perfect sunset get swallowed by a squall line, my camera already outside the bag and the first drops landing on the lens hood. That is why I spent the last 90 days testing camera rain covers in real conditions - Pacific Northwest drizzle, Florida […]

I lost 14 pounds on a three-day section of the John Muir Trail last summer and I never once regretted packing a tripod. The best camera tripods for hiking need to do something most tripod reviews ignore: they have to disappear in your pack until you need them, then stand firm when the wind picks […]

I have lost count of how many trail cameras I have pulled cards from over the past decade. I have also lost count of how many of those cards failed me at the worst possible moment. One January morning, I drove two hours to my deer lease only to find that every photo from opening […]

Spending summer on the road, I've watched way too many coolers get tossed after one season of melted ice and soggy sandwiches. After 14 months of hauling seven different portable camping freezers through the Mojave, the Cascades, and three long-haul van trips, I can tell you the right compressor fridge changes how you camp forever. […]

I have spent more nights around a campfire than I care to admit, and I can tell you with certainty: a bad camping chair will ruin an entire weekend. Our team has been testing the best reclining camping chairs on the market for since March, hauling them to mountains, lakes, beaches, and backyard fire pits. […]

Last summer our team spent 28 nights across 7 states putting the most popular screen tents for camping through real-world conditions. We cooked under them in 95°F heat at the Outer Banks, slept inside them during thunderstorms in Michigan, and watched mosquitoes swarm harmlessly outside while we ate dinner in the Adirondacks. That kind of […]

I spent the last three months testing 10 of the most popular trail cameras on the market, hauling them through brush, salt spray, and freezing mornings to find the best trail cameras for . Our team logged more than 4,000 trigger events across two properties, swapping SD cards in the rain and pulling SIM cards […]

I've logged over 200 dives across three oceans, and nothing kills a great dive faster than a camera that floods, fogs, or flat-out can't handle the pressure. After spending six weeks shooting everything from coral reefs in Cozumel to kelp forests in Monterey, I can tell you this: the best underwater cameras for diving in […]

After our team spent 90 days testing 8 different underwater camera housings in Caribbean reefs, Pacific kelp forests, and freshwater lakes, I can tell you that choosing the right waterproof camera case matters more than the camera inside it. I have watched divers lose $2,400 rigs to budget housings that leaked at 30 feet, and […]
