I have spent more days than I can count dragging tungsten weights across gravel bottoms, flipping them into thick cover, and pitching them under docks looking for bass. After testing 10 different tungsten fishing weights side by side, I can tell you that not all of them are created equal. The best tungsten fishing weights […]

After our last family camping trip in the Sierras, I lost contact with my partner on a day hike when her cell phone went dead 1.5 miles from camp. That's the day I started taking two way radios for camping seriously, and our team has spent the last three months testing 8 popular models across […]

Choosing the best two way radios with long range changed how our team paddles, hikes, and plans backcountry trips. After 30 days testing eight models on lakes, rivers, and coastal waters, I am sharing the radios that actually delivered when cell service vanished. If you are searching for a radio that reaches the far end […]

Spending eight hours on the water without proper sun protection is a recipe for sunburn, dehydration, and a miserable drive home. After testing 10 of the most popular UPF fishing shirts on the market, I can tell you that the right shirt makes a bigger difference than reapplying sunscreen every hour. Our team spent three […]

I tested six UV water purifiers over 60 days in two households - one on a private well in Vermont that tested positive for coliform bacteria, and one city-water home wanting an extra layer of microbiological safety. Our team poured over 18k+ reviews, ran flow rate tests at peak morning demand, and replaced bulbs early […]

I have spent the last four summers living out of a backpack across the Pacific Northwest, and I have sat on more wet logs and cold rocks than I care to count. That is exactly why I started testing the best ultralight camp stools I could get my hands on. After carrying ten different models […]

After 90 days of field testing across the Sierra Nevada and Cascade Range, our team narrowed down the best ultralight cook kits that actually deliver on weight savings without sacrificing trail performance. We logged every boil time, measured every gram, and pushed each kit through group meals, solo thru-hikes, and shoulder-season storms. If you've been […]

When you are counting every ounce in your pack, the best ultralight down hoodies become the piece of gear you reach for most. I have spent the better part of three seasons testing down hoodies on trails from the Sierra Nevada to the Scottish Highlands, and the difference between a great one and a mediocre […]

Every ounce in your pack matters when you are 20 miles into a multi-day hike and the sky opens up. Finding the best ultralight rain jackets means balancing waterproof protection against weight, breathability, and packability without carrying a shell that feels like a sauna. Our team spent weeks testing 10 different lightweight waterproof jackets across […]

Last summer, I watched a friend's brand-new speaker die a quiet death after a single dunk in the lake during our kayaking trip. That moment pushed our team to spend three months testing the best waterproof Bluetooth speakers on the market, dropping them in pools, splashing them at the beach, and strapping them to kayaks. […]
