An environmental message to our supporters .
Paddle Round the Pier, Europe’s largest beach festival exists to promote the healthy and safe use of the coastline.
Since the first ‘Paddle’ in 1996, we have raised over £300,000 for appropriate causes. The Paddle weekend itself is one of the main events of the Brighton Calendar, welcoming 50,000 visitors to the beach in the first weekend of July every year.
We have always been environmentally conscientious and this year, more than ever, we are making a real positive drive to reduce or eliminate waste, avoid plastics wherever possible and at the same time help educate our visitors.
All our suppliers and supporters are asked to:
- Avoid the use of plastics, especially straws, cutlery, bags and bottles;
- Use 100% compostable materials, (e.g. paper, cardboard or other wood products).
- Help Paddle promote an environmentally friendly message;
- Reduce or eliminate waste, reusing or recycling things wherever possible.
The main way you can do this is by the wholesale adoption of compostable waste at Paddle. This will include pints; other drinks; coffee cups; chip trays; cutlery etc. and it is important that everyone uses compostable waste.
With the support of Coleman’s (distributor) and Vegware (suppliers) we can all do our bit. There will be special containers and trained staff to educate people throughout the Paddle Village over the weekend, but in order to do this we must make sure that everyone is using compostable waste. This would mean a small surcharge per item (dependent on what the item is and quantities involved).
Vegware is available through Paddle’s East Sussex based distributor Coleman’s ABC (01424 717777 or email@example.com).
We will be really doing our bit for the environment by reducing waste and single use plastics.
Best regards and thank you
