Kitesurf Downwinder - Lancing to Paddle

About

Grab your kite and take part in our 10KM kitesurfing event supported by Lancing Kitesurf Club and Kitesurfkings on Saturday 6th July leaving at 08:30/09/00 with a view to arriving by 10.30. Start from Lancing Beach (meeting on the beach directly in front of the Lancing Kitesurf Club
beach hut) and kite downwind to The Paddle Village (Hove Lawns). Anyone who is a competent kitesurfer can enter and you choose if you’re there to take it easy or get your race on!

More Info

The plan is for everyone to already be on the water and kiting at 09.00, this is because of both the optimum tidal height and the arrival space
being available… so please aim for 08.30 then if it becomes 09.00 you’re still winning. If you are truly advanced and the wind direction
is accommodating then you could leave later and still arrive by 10.30 but please can everyone aim to get on the water between 08.30 and 09.00 so that we can kite down together in a crew at 09.00.

If the wind forecast does not support our downwinder kite plans then the downwinder will be cancelled. This decision will be made on the morning of Friday 5th July at the latest. If you have registered here on the Paddle site then we can email you to advise if the event is happening.

You can also check the status on Facebook or email ashley.goldman@lancingkitesurfingclub.com and he’ll then drop you an
email as soon as the decision’s been made.

The downwinder is for competent riders only as if there is a lot of westerly in the wind people new to downwinders are likely to really
struggle and if there’s a lot of southerly in it then Shoreham Harbour, Hot Pipes and a few other little ‘pokey’ bits might cause
an issue. If you’re an experienced kiter but haven’t done a downwinder before then if you are already happily jumping this would
indicate a downwinder would be possible. If you are in any doubt then book a lesson now now so you can have some downwinder coaching and get some practice in.

Also on the kitesurf menu for Saturday 6th July is the Kitesurfkings Kitesurf Competition at 19.00 straight off the beach in front of The
Paddle Village. The competition is open to all independent kitesurfers and even if you’re not yet up on your board you could still win a
prize! See the full details here: Kitesurfkings Kitesurf Competition.

You can also check the status on Facebook or email ashley.goldman@lancingkitesurfingclub.com and he’ll then drop you an
email as soon as the decision’s been made. We strongly advise that all participants wear a personal flotation device. The Lancing Kitesurf Club
safety team’s decision is final on all matters.

Access & Safety

We strongly recommend that life jackets and helmets are worn and that everyone have the appropriate insurance but this is a freeride event
with the quality crew at Lancing kitesurf Club. This is a freeride event so it is no different from any other kite session. This means we are not
providing additional safety cover or stipulating the use of any specific equipment.

Please just stick to Kitesurfkings golden rules, which are: ‘no heroes’ and ‘a safe environment (for you, others and your kit)’.

Post Paddle & Raffle Prize Draw

After the mass Paddle on Sunday afternoon, everyone heads back to the Paddle Village for the incredible raffle hand-out – remember if you’re not there, you can’t claim your prizes!

Then, why not stay on and enjoy the unique atmosphere at this wonderful weekend festival – repeatedly voted one of the best days out in the UK and previously voted “Best Festival” at the Brighton and Hove Business Awards in spite of exceptionally stiff competition.

Paddle features the very best in water, street and urban sports, live music, kids entertainment, ‘have a go’ opportunities, world food courts and much more! There is also a whole Paddle Village of exhibitions, water sports and beach lifestyle brands for you to explore après swim.
