Paddle Something Unusual
Event details & registration
The Paddle Something Unusual is the perfect opportunity for those of you less stable in the community to exercise their creativity and join in the Paddle. You could be a business promoting itself and your CSR program, a group of friends, a pub or a football club etc
In previous years we’ve had everything from aeroplanes to cranes, from a bed to a shed – the only guidelines are to make it as ridiculous (but safe) as possible, raise plenty of money – and have a spectacularly good laugh doing it!
To enter this amazing event, there is registration a fee of £25 per team. This all goes to the charity. So come and get involved and register your team now!
- Your craft must be paddled manually
- Anyone who is taking part in the water has to be able to swim a minimum of 100 metres in the sea
- Have a minimum crew of two (no maximum limit)
- Absolutely no propellers or engines of any kind other than fuelled by spinach (and beans)
- You must ensure that it is seaworthy and capable of making it! That’s it!
Even if you have registered on line, set up a Virgin Money Giving fundraising page, for The Paddle round The Pier Charity, ONLY.
There is no minimum amount to raise though, of course the more the better – the preferred method is Virgin Money Giving although a sponsor form can be found below.
For every £5 raised you will receive a raffle ticket, £10 = 2 tickets, £20 = 4 etc, the more you raise the better your chances!
With an array of prizes, worth hundreds of pounds up for grabs, we hope you’ll raise as much as possible to increase your chances of winning. Everybody stands a chance of winning. If you have raised money through Virgin Money Giving you will need to bring evidence of the amount you have raised (just show your page to the registration team).
On the day
Because of obvious parking restrictions, you will be expected to deliver your vessel down to Hove Lawns Beach early on the Sunday morning (7th July) between 7am & 8:30am. All entries will be on display to the public for them to admire and photograph before the event.
You will need to present yourself at the Registration Tent so that we can confirm to our safety boats that you will be on the water. Hand in or complete and documentation.
Here you can also hand in any paper sponsorship forms or show your Virgin Money Giving page to collect your raffle tickets. We aim to set of promptly at 1pm dependent upon weather and tides.
You will be responsible for your own delivery/collection of your board and also responsible for your own safety and behaviour.
You MUST remove and dispose of your own craft; no craft is to be left on the beach at all after the event has finished.
There may be a charge for any team who leaves their craft on the beach after the event has finished.
Access & Safety
There is no vehicle access to the beach/ prom after 9AM on the Sunday, for safety reasons, so unless you are able to carry the craft from the Peace Statue, you’ll need to have your craft on the beach and have removed any vehicle/s by 9AM.
You can leave the craft on the beach once you have delivered it.
All crafts must be removed safely on the Sunday after the event.
There will be a water safety team on and offshore during the event.
We strongly advise that all participants wear a personal flotation device.
Please DO NOT get on your craft before you are past the breaking waves (should there be any) and also dismount your craft before returning to shore – there is a danger in that zone especially with heavy crafts.
The safety team’s decision is final on all maters.
Post Paddle & Raffle Prize Draw
After the mass Paddle on Sunday afternoon, everyone heads back to the Paddle Village for the incredible raffle hand-out – remember if you’re not there, you can’t claim your prizes!
Then, why not stay on and enjoy the unique atmosphere at this wonderful weekend festival – repeatedly voted one of the best days out in the UK and previously voted “Best Festival” at the Brighton and Hove Business Awards in spite of exceptionally stiff competition.
Paddle features the very best in water, street and urban sports, live music, kids entertainment, ‘have a go’ opportunities, world food courts and much more! There is also a whole Paddle Village of exhibitions, water sports and beach lifestyle brands for you to explore après swim.
