The Palace to Paddle Swim is brought to you by Brighton Tri Club and covers a distance of 2.5km. Offering both wetsuit and non-wetsuit categories (decide on the day!) for both males and females and offers a great way for both experienced and inexperienced sea swimmers to complete a swim around Brighton’s iconic Pier(s) and get a swimmers’ eye view of Hove’s classic seafront architecture.
The 2.5k Palace to Paddle Swim will be held on Saturday July 7th, an will begin at 8:30am, starting east of Brighton Palace Pier.
A contingency swim is planned on Sunday July 8th at 8:30am.

However, if spaces are still available, you will be able to register (at the revised price) on the day. After registering your entry on-line, full details with final arrangements will be emailed to you approximately one week prior to Paddle weekend.

Joining instructions will be sent out to swimmers approximately one week prior to the event to confirm details of the swim, including information about the on-day compulsory check-in on the beach by the start point.
Experience: Reasonably confident swimmers preferably with some experience of sea swimming.
Check-in and start point of the swim is on the beach in front of the Brighton Zip on Madeira Drive (postcode BN2 1TB ) which is approximately 50m to the east of Brighton Palace Pier. Please note, all swimmers will need to check in at the start point by Brighton Pier (NOT in Paddle Village) before their swim to confirm attendance and to complete essential course and safety briefings. Check-in will close promptly at 8.00am so it is essential that you arrive in plenty of time to check in from 7.00am onwards. On the day there will be a mobile bag drop facility available. Valuables will be left at your own risk and Paddle/Brighton Tri Club cannot accept any liability for lost or damaged items. Bags will be returned to the prom area near the ramp exit of the beach adjacent to the finish gantry for you to collect on production of your swim number. We recommend bringing a spare pair of flip flops that you can wear to the start point on the shingle beach after you have checked your bag in. These will be bundled up and returned to the finish gantry area at Paddle Village for you to collect at the end of your swim.
The water temperature in the sea at Brighton in July can range between 14-16°C which will add to the challenge of this event. As for the air temperature for this time of year you can expect 18-22°C. There are both wetsuits and non-wetsuit categories – swimmers can decide on the day which category they would like to participate in. However, if it is unsuitably cold, organisers have the right to require all competitors to wear a suitable wetsuit.
The safety of our swimmers is our number one priority. Obviously an event like this is somewhat at the mercy of the elements. Organisers reserve the right to vary the course if necessary. In the unlikely event that both the scheduled swim and the Sunday back-up slot are cancelled by the organisers due to sea conditions being too unstable, a 50% refund will be given to entrants.
We are sure that you will appreciate that a lot of time and effort goes into arranging an event like this and whilst we endeavour to keep the costs to an absolute minimum, thanks to a team which is entirely made up of unpaid volunteers, a number of costs are incurred in advance (swim hats, fuel for the boats, insurance etc) plus we want to raise as much money as possible for our wonderful charities. More details of these are available on our “Charities” page. Please note, refunds will not be given in any other circumstances.
Afterwards, why don’t you plan to stay on and enjoy the unique atmosphere at this wonderful weekend festival – repeatedly voted one of the best days out in the UK and previously voted “Best Festival” at the 2014 Brighton and Hove Business Awards in spite of exceptionally stiff competition.
Paddle features the very best in water, street and urban sports, live music, kids entertainment, ‘have a go’ opportunities, world food courts and much more! There is also a whole Paddle Village of exhibitions, water sports and beach lifestyle brands for you to explore après swim.
